How To Play Quarantine

Quarantine is an asymmetrical, cooperative board game for two to four players. Designed by John Yianni and published by Antoine Bauza, Quarantine was released in 2009.

The game takes place in a laboratory where a deadly contagion has been released. Players must work together to find the four cure vials and administer them to the other players before they succumb to the disease.

To begin, players select one of the four colors and take the matching pawn and card. The player with the most cards starts the game. The deck is shuffled and five cards are dealt to each player, face down. The remaining cards are placed face down in the middle of the table to form a draw pile. The first player flips over the top card of their deck- this is their active card for the turn.

On a player's turn, they may either: play one card from their hand; or draw one card from the deck and add it to their hand. When playing a card, there are three things that can happen:

1) If the card played matches the color of another player's pawn, then that player must show their active card (the topmost card of their deck). Once both players have shown their cards, they resolve any effect(s) on the cards (usually requiring one or both players to discard). After any effects are resolved, both players replace their active cards with new ones from their decks so that neither player knows what either's next move will be; 2) If the number on the played card is equal to or higher than the number on another player's pawn, then that player takes another turn; or 3) If the number on the played card is lower than the number on another player's pawn, then sickness begins to spread and at least one token is placed in front of that player (representing how many people have contracted the disease).

When all four tokens have been placed in front of a player, that player has lost and is out of the game. The last living player is declared as being victorious and wins!
